Remembering Kyle Busch’s Last Race at Dover

Kyle Busch at the Dover All-Star Race

The entire racing community is mourning the death of one of the sport’s icons. Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch passed away on May 21, 2026. A statement released by the Busch family on May 23, 2026, confirmed that Kyle Busch passed away due to complications from severe pneumonia and sepsis.

Anyone in the stands at the 2026 Dover All-Star race would never have imagined they were about to see Kyle Busch’s final race. After a complete domination in the truck race, an ecstatic Busch spoke something into the mic that race fans will never forget. He said, “You never know when the last one is.”

That last one was at the Dover All-Star weekend. In classic Rowdy fashion, he took the #7 Spire Motorsports truck to victory lane after winning the pole and sweeping the stages.

Say what you want about Dover hosting the All-Star race, but it was a reminder of how special Dover Motor Speedway is. Now it will forever be the track that one of the greatest ever to do it ran his final race.

Just a few days after Busch’s passing, the haulers pulled into the wet, soggy Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca-Cola 600. Busch’s car was lowered from the hauler, and the NASCAR family watched the newly wrapped RCR car unloaded and pushed into the garage.

Richard Childress Racing decided to retire #8 and swap in #33 for Austin Hill, who will take the seat in place of Kyle Busch.

On Friday, NASCAR teams and spectators watched Corey Day climb into the #7 Spire Motorsports truck before the race was delayed due to weather. Everyone showed their respect for the truck that Busch wheeled to victory at Dover.

This weekend at the Coca-Cola 600, drivers will have “Rowdy” and “8” decals on their cars in honor of Kyle Busch.

NASCAR fans and the racing community will never forget his legacy and will continue to support Samantha, Braxton, and Lennix Busch during this difficult time.
