Under the bright lights, one car stood out from the rest of the field. The silver and pink Chevrolet #78 flashed by the front stretch of Charlotte Motor Speedway like a bolt of lightning. That car was driven by Katherine Legge, who is now the first woman ever to attempt “The Double.”
The Double is one of the hardest challenges in motorsports. It’s 1100 miles, 2 different disciplines, and logistically difficult. Only a handful of drivers have done it, and now Katherine Legge burned her tires into the asphalt of history as the first woman to do it.
Going from the sleek, open-wheel IndyCar to the wide-body stock car requires raw talent. Legge, a multifaceted driver from the UK, recently got the opportunity to drive in the Cup Series with BJ McLeod’s Live Fast Motorsports team.
She returned part-time to the 2026 season at Watkins Glen with an electric paint scheme and beauty-focused partnership: e.l.f. Cosmetics. You can’t deny that “Eyes. Lips. Fuel” is a catchy combo for Legge.
Legge repped the same scheme for the Coca-Cola 600 and a different e.l.f. scheme for the Indy 500. Unfortunately, she finished P33 in the Indy 500 after crashing on Lap 18 while attempting to avoid Ryan Hunter-Reay’s spinning car. In the second leg of the Double, she finished P31 in the Coca-Cola 600 following a tire coming loose on the track.
Despite the racing mishaps, she pushed through to be an inspiration to all women. Her perseverance showed dedication, grit, and all-around passion for the sport.
Off the track, she has a children’s book about chasing your dreams. A message that anyone can take to heart. Legge followed her dreams and made history by attempting The Double.
